A Gentle Cooking Process

After carefully selecting the ingredients, we gently cook them in small batches at our US factory. This unique process ensures that essential vitamins and minerals are retained during cooking for a safe, ready-to-serve food.

When it comes to processing, less is more. Freshpet™ Select foods undergo significantly less processing and cooking allowing them to retain essential proteins and nutrients. Cooking at high temperatures destroys the nutrient value of the food.

Traditional pet foods (dry and wet) undergo high levels of cooking and processing to become shelf stable. In fact, the harsh heat processing and preservatives used in many dry and canned products enable them to sit on shelves for up to two years. You wouldn't knowingly serve a meal that was that old and we wouldn't either.
